Detroit Public Schools shaped me from first grade through high school – and deeply instilled in me the foundational Midwest values of hard work, honesty, human dignity and a love for the great diversity of people who make our city one of the most fascinating and tenacious places on Earth – true to its motto as the Renaissance City.

I am a returning Detroiter, after living and working in several other cities in the U.S. and abroad, including Boston, Phoenix, London and Munich. This is a perfect time to be back in Detroit, as it experiences yet another Renaissance. When you understand the heart of this city, you will never be surprised to see that people here never give up, and just keep getting stronger, smarter, more resourceful and determined.
